Court Remands 6 Teenagers for Allegedly Raping 18-year-old Girl


A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded six teenagers in prison for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.
The defendants: Faruk Muhammad, 19; Yusuf Ibrahim, 19; Ibrahim Aliyu, 19;Abdulwahab Isa, 18; Usman Husaini, 19; and Hassan Aliyu, 17, were charged with criminal conspiracy and rape.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Idris, ordered the remand of the suspects though they all pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Idris adjourned the matter till June 30th, for further mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Badamasi Gawuna, had told the court that Joseph Huidoof Badawa Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at the Hotoro Police Division, Kano, on May 13th 2016.
Gawuna said that on the same date, at about 9.30 PM the suspects all of Kawon Alhaji Sani, Nasarawa Local government Area of Kano State, conspired to committed the offences. According to him, they deceived and lured Huido’s 18-year-old daughter of the same address.
Gawuna said they lured her on the pretext of rescuing her from unknown hoodlums.
The prosecutor added that the suspects instead took the victim into one of the suspects’ room located at Kawon Alhaji Sani and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
He said the victim was rushed to Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment.
The offence contravened Sections 97 and 283 of the Penal Code.
