Boko Haram insurgents have suffered a setback as two of their commanders and 15 of their fighters were killed
Tuesday morning as fighting between them and Nigerian troops to recapture Michika and Bazza towns raged. The
towns were overran by the insurgents over a week ago.A military source who spoke on condition of anonymity
said that two dreaded commanders of the sect reportedly in charge of Gulak and Shuwa, were among the dead
Meanwhile, bodies of indigenes caught in the crossfire are reportedly littering the town following renewed
fighting between Nigerian troops and the insurgents.‘Insurgents Still Slaughtering People, Raping Women In
Michika’More than a week after Boko Haram annexed Michika and Bazza towns in Adamawa State, residents say
the two towns are yet to be recaptured by the Nigerian soldiers as widely speculated. The residents said the
insurgents maintained their siege on the two towns as they continued slaughtering people and raping women
trapped in the towns while plundering properties. The disclosure was made in Yola yesterday by a coalition of non
governmental organisation consisting of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Michika chapter, Civil Servants
Forum, the Northern Christian Elders Forum and Kamwe Christian Community Forum.According to the
spokesperson of the forum, Rev. Joel Billi, who doubles as the chairman of CAN, Michika branch, the insinuation
that the military has recaptured Michika and Bazza towns were blatant lies as the insurgents are still in control of
the two towns.
