PDP to pick presidential candidate Dec 6

ABUJA—NATIONAL leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP disclosed yesterday that its 

presidential primary to nominate its flag-bearer for the 2015 presidential election will be held on 

December 6.According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party’s 

National Assembly and governorship primaries will hold on November 22nd and 29 respectively.


The National Caucus of the party has already approved the dates just as the Board of Trustees, 

BoT of the party at the end of its meeting would also approve.
The National Executive Committee 

(NEC) will meet today to ratify the dates and guidelines.In line with this, the party will release the 

guidelines tomorrow (September 19),  publish the timetable for the primaries and write the 

independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its planned congresses on October 9 and 

commence the sale of forms for all primaries on October 10.As the PDP governors met last night 

to look at these issues, a source said “it is however expected that public servants, appointed 

people and elected party officials with political ambition will resign 7 days before the 

commencement of ward congress. Such people are expected to resign by October 20.”Meanwhile, 

in a document titled: “Timetable of activities leading to Primaries” as obtained by Vanguard 

yesterday, the party would conduct the South West zonal congress on October 11; Zonal rallies for 

South-South and South-West, September 20 and 27 respectively.According to the document, 

National Chairman’s Fund raising dinner is fixed for October 15.Purchase and return of forms for 
Ward Congresses where 3 Ad- hoc delegates would emerge according to the document will take 

place between October 27 and 28; ward Congresses, November 11 and appeal is fixed for 

November 3.
