PDP Crisis: Makarfi Bows, Indicate Resolve To Work With Sheriff




AHMED Makarfi has said he would obey the position of the law in the on-going crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP now that Alhaji Modu Sheriff has takenover the National Secretariat of the party on Monday to affirm his authority as Chairman.

Sheriff along with some party members had stormed the Party secretariat, claiming has was in possession of a court order recognising him to continue in office as the National Chairman.



Makarfi, who was appointed caretaker chairman of the party at the Port Harcourt convention told newsmen on Tuesday that, if he was fully briefed on details about crisis in the party and the status of Modu Sheriff, he would have had a rethink


He said, “if I knew that there was a court order empowering Sheriff as the Chairman, I would not have taken the position because my interest is to see that PDP did not disintegrate. If the court said Sheriff is our leader, we will all follow him.”


Meanwhile, the PDP chairman board of trustee, Walid Jubril has paid a midnight visit to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s Maitama resident.


The Bot Chairman, told the embattle Chairman that the BoT has always stood by him and would continue to give him the needed support in other to bring PDP back on track to wrestling power from the opposition come 2019.


The BoT Chairman, who was accompanied by some BoT members were said to have pledge to call other party members of ranks to sort out their differences once and for all if only for the party to move forward.


Senator Ali Sheriff, who also spoke with some journalists today at his residence said he would not relent in fighting his cause to the last while preventing injustice within the party.


He said, “I did not seek to be chairman, they came to me because they know i have the capacity to put PDP on track. Some of them are not comfortable with my own style due to their selfish reasons.


Indeed, majority of our members know that since came on board, I have done what none of them could do to save PDP.


He reiterated that he would remain as Chairman of PDP until the outcome of court ruling, calling on all members of PDP to remain focus and continue on the path that will take PDP to victory.
