Army: Why We Attacked Protesting MASSOB, IPOB Members



The Nigerian Army has explained that its troops, alongside other security agencies, invoked the extant Rules of Engagement by acting in self-defence as well as in defence of lives and property when it shot dead about five members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday.
The pro-Biafra activists were killed as they marched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the defunct Biafra Republic by late leader of the old Eastern region, Odumegwu Ojukwu, but the Army claimed that the MASSOB and IPOB members launched an attack on peace loving populace as well as security agencies while marking the first anniversary of the democratically elected government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

SGF Directs Auditor-general, Ukura To Retire



The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has directed the Auditor-General, Mr. Samuel Ukura, to proceed on retirement.
It ordered the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) to set in motion machinery for the appointment of a new Auditor-General for the Federation.
Ukura, who was appointed in 2010, is due for retirement on June 5, when he will clocking the mandatory retirement age of 60 years. Ukura, who was appointed in 2010, was born on June 5, 1956.
The memo from the SGF, dated May 25, was signed by Mohammed Bukar, Permanent Secretary (General Services) office of the SGF, has directed Ukura to proceed on retirement.
The memo had, among others, directed the FCSC to appoint the most senior Director as Auditor-General in acting capacity, pending the appointment of a substantive Auditor-General within three months.

As the Federal Government moves against the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), militancy in the region has tak­en another dimension as a new group: The New Delta Suicide Squad (NDSS) has emerged.
Unlike the NDA which con­centrates its attacks on pipelines and facilities of major oil firms, the new group has threatened to destroy the equipment of private oil firms’ installations in the re­gion.
The announcement of the group came on the heels of Pres­ident Muhammadu Buhari’s threat in a national broadcast to mark his first anniversary in of­fice, to crush the upsurge in mil­itancy in the Niger Delta which has crippled Nigeria’s oil produc­tion.
The NDSS warned owners of tank farms, storage tanks and private jetties to quit the Niger Delta within seven days.

ANSU Shuts Down Indefinitely, After Graduate Was Tortured To Death


Last week, it was all over the media that a spillover student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, formerly Anambra State University was tortured to death by the school’s anti-cult for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.

Unlike what was widely reported, the late victim, Ndirika Michael was a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, who came back for clearance.

According to different students of the University I interviewed, the student was said to be a cultist during his days at ANSU, and the Anti-cult have been looking for him for so long.

When they heard that he is around, they captured him and he died while being tortured by them.

The late victim never stole a phone, he even uses an iphone 6.

Soldiers Take Over Tompolo’s Residence, Father Escapes Arrest



Tension pervaded the waterways of the oil-rich Niger Delta region yesterday, when a company of soldiers took over the palatial guesthouse of ex-Niger Delta warlord, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, in Gbaramatu Kingdom, restricting the movement of the paramount ruler to his palace.

Owing to the invasion, the community looked like a ghost town, even as it was learnt that institutions providing essential services, including health facilities, schools and the jetty from which many businesses in the area are transacted, were deserted in order to avoid confrontation with the troops.

Tompolo has repeatedly denied stoking the return of violent agitations in the region, but many believe that the ex-militant cannot extricate himself from the ongoing crisis, which has cut Nigeria’s oil exports by about 50 per cent.

Former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, yesterday May 30th, said he would soon reveal how his former boss and the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, died.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Al-Mustapha alleged that Abacha and Abiola’s deaths were from same source.

According to him, he would be telling all he knows about the death of the two famous Nigerians in his new book, Mustapha’s Memoirs, which he is still writing and would soon publish. Al-Mustapha accused some Yoruba personalities of being insincere with Abiola while he was alive and in detention.

The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday, May 29, discovered two bomb-making factories in Dikwa.

The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News men in Maiduguri. Abdullahi said that the factories were discovered during a patrol by men of the command in collaboration with the troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

Saudi Arabia executes Nigerian man after he was convicted of killing a police officer


Saudi authorities have executed a Nigerian man after convicting him of murdering a police officer, AFP reports. It was the 95th execution of the year in the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom, which imposes the death penalty for offences including murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery, rape and apostasy. The surge in executions has drawn concern from human rights groups.
Fahd Houssawi was executed on Sunday, May 29 in the western city of Taif, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency. He had been found guilty of strangling a policeman and beating him to death, the ministry said.

Houssawi had knocked the man to the ground before hitting his head repeatedly into the ground, beating him to death. He then injured another man in his attempt to escape.

Journalist and mafia expert says Britain is the world's most corrupt nation


A journalist who has spent over a decade documenting the criminal dealings of the mafia has named Britain the most corrupt country in the world. 36-year-old Roberto Saviano who wrote the best-selling exposés Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero, made the comments at the Hay Literary Festival.

President Obama and his family have reportedly decided to lease an 8,200-square-foot mansion in DC’s Kalorama neighborhood after they leave the White House next January. The eight-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bathroom residence is owned by Glover Park Group co-founder Joe Lockhart and his wife, Giovanna Gray Lockhart, the Washington editor of Glamour.

The Obamas’ decision was first reported by Independent Journal, a day after it was reported they had settled on Kalorama as their new neighborhood.

President Obama and Michelle Obama made it official in March that they would remain in Washington for at least a few years after his second term ends to allow their younger daughter, Sasha, to finish up at Sidwell Friends School. Their older daughter, Malia, graduates from the elite school this spring and plans to attend Harvard University in 2017 following a gap year.

The month old Nigerian girl touched the heart of the Italian Doctor, who was caring for her after he rescued her. The baby’s pregnant mother and father are believed to have died when the overcrowded boat capsized.

Kenyan Prostitute Cuts Man's Manhood Off After He Refused To Pay For Sex




A Kenyan man will have to live the rest of his life without his joystick after a prostitute he engaged for sex cut off his weapon of destruction after he refused to pay her, reports Standard Digital.

The incident which happened in Nakuru, a town in the mid-west of the East African country, where it was reported that the 31-year-old man said to be a tout, had picked the commercial sex worker along the street and took her to his room for sex.

The deceased had gone to the faculty office to see if anything could be done about her case, but she found out that it was too late to make amends.

British Airways Considering Leaving Nigeria!!



British Airways is evaluating its routes to Nigeria, adding to aviation-industry pressure on the government as sister carrier Iberia and U.S. competitor United Airlines halt flights to the oil-based market as traffic stutters and currency controls delay access to revenue.

A student has been hospitalized following a fire outbreak at the Cross River State College of Education, COE Akamkpa female hostel today, May 27.

According to CrossRiverWatch, the fire started at about 11am in the change-over switch at the hostel entrance and caused extensive damage to the building and property of the residents with no immediate help or means of putting off the inferno.


"The fire extinguishers at the hostel were empty at the time of the fire incident. It was after this event that the College Management bought new ones just today" CRW reports.

Condom Found Inside A Woman's Appendix(photos)



'The unknown 26-year-old visited a hospital in Cameroon with stomach pains on the right side of her pelvis, leaving her unable to eat and feeling nauseous. A doctor diagnosed her with appendicitis following scans.

The lady was then rushed to emergency surgery and as they cut into the appendix they discovered the organ had a piece of rubbery material stuck inside it. Once removed they realised the object was ‘consistent with a condom’.

Detailed in the Journal of Medical Case Reports, the woman later confirmed she had swallowed the condom accidentally during MouthAction with her boyfriend'.

Former South Africa soccer coaching legend Ted Dumitru, 76, is dead. It was announced on Thursday afternoon that the former Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana mentor died due to a heart attack after collapsing at Eastgate shopping mall in Johannesburg in the early hours of Thursday, 26 May 2016.
Theodore Dumitru aka "Ted"was a football manager who last worked as a technical director for Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African Premier Soccer League. He was the former coach of the South Africa national football team.

Ha! United Airlines to end their flights to Nigeria after June 30th



After years of operating a daily route from Houston to Lagos, United Airlines will stop flying to Nigeria next month. Their last fight will be on June 30th, ending the airline's only route to Africa. They confirmed this to a twitter user who asked them if it was true.

According to reports, United Airlines is ending their flights to Nigeria for two major reasons asides the one they mentioned above.

1, the weakness in the energy sector in Nigeria and 2. they (and other airlines) have been having difficulties collecting money from airline tickets sold in Nigeria.

Hassan Tukur Granted $40m Bail



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted administrative bail to Hassan Tukur, the principal secretary to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Tukur had been in detention for several days for allegedly diverting $40 million he obtained to negotiate the release of more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Islamist insurgents belonging to Boko Haram.

Saharareporters quoted a source as saying that Tukur was detained and interrogated on charges that included his reported pocketing of about $35 million out of $40 million budgeted for negotiating the release of Chibok girls.

Naira Falls To N350/$ As Investors Await Flexible Forex Policy


The Nigerian equities market appreciated to about five-month high wednesday as positive sentiments continued to trail the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) plan to introduce a flexible foreign exchange policy.

But feeling that the economy was regressing, the Senate yesterday summoned the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to brief it on the monetary and fiscal policies the executive arm had adopted to salvage the economy.

In the equity market, however, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All-Share Index surged 3.8 per cent to close at 28,260.61, while market capitalisation added N353.4 billion to be at N9.7 trillion. The market had gained 0.80 per cent on Tuesday when the decision was taken.

Fulani Herdsmen Destroy Ortom’s Rice Farm; Kill 50



 Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, yesterday disclosed that his country home has been sacked by Fulani mercenaries who also killed over 50 of his kinsmen after which they razed over 200 hectares of his rice farm.

He lamented that the incessant killings and destruction of lives and property in the Benue had created a 25 year retrogression of development in the state. Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that his administration in the last five years initiated and completed 1000 projects.
Okorocha, during a parley with journalists at the Government House, Owerri, as part of celebration for Imo at 40, said, “My government is focused with the mission to save and protect the interest of the people and I want to be remembered as a man who worked for the good of the people.”
He said that his administration had also completed all the projects started by previous governments of former governors Achike Udenwa, Ikedi Ohakim, late Evan Enwerem, and late Sam Mbakwe.
He said that the N26b bailout fund to the state was used strictly to settle debts owed by government.

Russian Tennis star Maria Sharapova has been selected by the Russian tennis Federation to join its team to partake in the Rio Olympics this summer despite being banned from Tennis by the WTA for taking a banned performance enhancing substance during January's Australian Open.

The cyber crime cell of Pune police, India has arrested a 43-year-old Nigerian national from Delhi, who had a staggering 14 accounts in reputed banks and has till now duped more than 90 people across India through lottery scams to the tune of around Rs three crore.
The accused, identified as Igwe Festus Abraham was arrested in Delhi on Tuesday, May 24 and brought to Pune on Wednesday. He has been remanded in police custody till May 31, the police said.

The investigation was initiated by the cyber cell of Pune Police after a woman registered a complaint of losing Rs 16.18 lakh to cheaters in January this year, deputy commissioner of police (cyber and economic offence wing) Deepak Sakore said.

5 Police Officers Missing In Rivers State After Ambush



THE Rivers State Police Command on Friday declared five policemen missing after an ambush by unknown gunmen on Wednesday at Okujagu waterways in Okrika Local Government Area.

The command also announced the arrest of 53 suspects in connection with the missing policemen.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad, said in a statement that the policemen were part of a team that were on a routine police inquiry when they were attacked before they could disembark from the boat conveying them.

Muhammad explained that six policemen, comprising two inspectors and four other officers were initially missing while Inspector Aferuan Imoukhuede was rescued a day after.

Court Orders Alamieyeseigha And Wife To Vacate Property In Bayelsa




The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ordered the late former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieseigha, and his wife, Margaret, to vacate a piece of land measuring 5336.919 square metres at Ovom area of the state.

The court order is contained in a judgement delivered by Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji-Abadua in an appeal instituted by Stodie Ventures Limited against Alamieyeseigha and his wife, Margaret.

The late former governor and his wife are enmeshed in several cases of alleged land grabbing, including a dispute involving a choice parcel of land located at the Government Reserved Area layout along Otiotio Road in Yenagoa metropolis.

Nigerian man stripped of British citizenship, suspected of plotting Paris-style terror attack


A Nigerian man linked to a group of British Islamists has been stripped of his UK citizenship amid fears he would return to London to execute a Paris-style terror attack, a court heard on Tuesday, May 24.

The man, known as L2 for legal reasons,(who is currently in Nigeria with his family) was deemed such a security risk that Home Secretary Theresa May (pictured) personally signed an order removing his British nationality in 2013.

L2, who is said to have lived and worked in Tower Hamlets, East London, during his time in Britain, is now challenging the Home Office decision at a hearing at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) in London.

Court Remands 6 Teenagers for Allegedly Raping 18-year-old Girl


A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded six teenagers in prison for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.
The defendants: Faruk Muhammad, 19; Yusuf Ibrahim, 19; Ibrahim Aliyu, 19;Abdulwahab Isa, 18; Usman Husaini, 19; and Hassan Aliyu, 17, were charged with criminal conspiracy and rape.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Idris, ordered the remand of the suspects though they all pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

White lions in South Africa are poisoned, decapitated and their paws chopped off for use in black magic rituals


Two white lions held in captivity on a farm in Limpopo, South Africa have been poisoned by poachers who cut off their heads and paws for use. The lions are believed to have been targeted as part of a multi-killing, where animal body parts are used for healing in black magic rituals.


Local police said they had picked up a number of suspects relating to the killing near the Stockpoort border crossing with Botswana and investigation is underway.

It has been estimated that 8,000 lions are bred in captivity in South Africa.

Obi: I Stopped Obasanjo From Sleeping In Anambra And Saved Money



Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi has revealed how he stopped former President Olusegun Obasanjo from sleeping in the state when the latter, as president, proposed to visit the state during his tenure

“I told him, ‘Mr president, you can come in the morning and go in the evening because I don’t have a place for you to stay,’” Obi explained.
The former governor disclosed this yesterday at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) during the 2016 edition of the Biennial Chinua Achebe Memorial Lecture, organised in honour of the late literary icon, by the institution’s Faculty of Arts.

Nigeria To Sign Visa-free Pact With 8 Countries



The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, says plans have been concluded to sign visa-free pacts with a bloc of eight African countries to promote economic partnership on the continent.

Onyeama announced this in Abuja on Tuesday at a news confernce to mark one year of President Mohammadu Buhari’s Administration.

The minister, who did not disclose the names of the countries making up the bloc, noted with concern that trading among African countries had been very low.

He, however, said that with the new idea by the President Mohammadu Buhari led administration, “it is expected that there will be upsurge in economic activities.

Man Rapes 15-Year-Old Orphan In Enugu At Gunpoint (photo)



A carpenter, identified as Casmir Eze, is now in the custody of the police in Enugu State for allegedly defying a 15-year-old orphan at gunpoint.

Eze, from Umugoji Orba in Udenu Local Government Area, had on Sunday, about 2am, allegedly gained entrance into the compound of the victim, Ogechi (surname withheld), an SS1 student, by scaling the fence and threatening to kill the victim if she failed to open her door. The suspect also warned the victim not to shout or alert the neighbours.

After Ogechi opened the door, Eze, who covered his face with a scarf, allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and ordered her to switch off the lantern in the room. He thereafter pounced on the victim and forcibly had carnal knowledge of her.

FG saves N50bn as it weeds off 43,000 ghost workers, cuts down on allowances


The Head of the Continuous Audit team of the Federal Government, Mohammed Dikwa says the Federal government has saved up to N50 billion through the audit of security agencies payroll and has been able to weed off 43, 000 ghost workers from its payroll.
