World's Most Unstable Countries: Nigeria Ranked As One




The Fund for Peace, a Washington D.C.-based non-profit, non-governmental research and educational institution, has ranked Nigeria as one of the world’s most unstable countries.

In its 12th annual Fragile States Index (FSI) released wednesday, Fund for Peace ranked Nigeria alongside war-torn Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraqi, Guinea, Pakistan, Burundi and Zimbabwe.

It stated that the situation in Nigeria deteriorated in 2015 when compared with 2014.

Abia Governorship : INEC issues certificate of return to Uche Ogah


 INEC this afternoon issued a certificate of return to PDP member, Uche Ogah (left), following an order by the Abuja Federal High Court on Monday June 27th, mandating INEC to immediately issue Certificate of Return to Ogah who came second at the PDP primaries in the state in 2014. 

Ogah had dragged the former state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, before the court, arguing that he presented false tax clearance during the party primaries.  The presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang, said that on the account of fake tax returns during the primaries, Ikpeazu was never qualified to run in the PDP primaries as a governorship candidate. He nullified Ikpeazu's election and ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Ogah. 

Ikpeazu has since filed an appeal against the ruling. 

CBN: Flexible Forex Policy On Trial




The Flexible Exchange Rate Inter-bank Market policy is on trial, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said yesterday.

It will make room for more stakeholders, including bureaux de change (BDC) operators, to participate, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele said.

He spoke at the interactive session between the BDCs and the CBN on the new policy and the state of the forex market.

He assured the BDCs that they will be factored in while acknowledging their impact on businesses.

Nigeria-china Roadshow Fetches $50 Billion — NNPC




The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that its strategy to fund capital intensive projects in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry has begun yielding fruits with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some Chinese companies worth $50 billion for infrastructure development.
The corporation said in a statement in Abuja that the deal was part of recent landmark strides by its management to bridge the infrastructure funding gaps in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.
The companies involved in the deal include China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO Group), China Cinda Asset Management Company Limited (CINDA), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation/Addax petroleum

I didn't convert to Islam- Ayefele


Gospel Tungba crooner, Yinka Ayefele has debunked the claim that he has converted to Islam. Earlier yesterday, the news of the conversion to Islam of the ace singer went viral with fans both home and abroad making calls to find out the veracity of the claim.

A release issued by his Publicist, David Ajiboye said, Ayefele is still a Christian and has no reason whatsoever to renounce his faith and believe.

Over 300,000 candidates apply for 750 EFCC work positions


Over 300,000 candidates applied for the 750 job positions advertised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Director of Public Affairs of EFC, Mr Osita Nwaja, made the announcement in Enugu yesterday. Nwaja said that the recruitment was segmented and that the first phase of the recruitment exercise ended on June 26.

How Senate Rules Were ‘amended’ For Saraki, Ekweremadu’s Elections – Clerk




The deputy clerk of the National Assembly, Benedict Efeturi, confirmed to police investigators that the senate’s standing orders used for the 2015 elections of Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu as senate president and deputy respectively, was different from the 2011 version which should have been in use at the time, details of police investigation seen by PREMIUM TIMES show.

Mr. Efeturi made the disclosure to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Nigerian Police, which investigated allegations that the rules were forged to help Messrs. Saraki and Ekweremadu to their posts.

Bread Prices Rise 25 Percent On Input Cost


Bread, a staple food for most Nigerians may soon disappear from the breakfast table as its price has risen by 25 percent in two weeks, following a sharp increase in the prices of sugar, flour and butter, which are the major components, BusinessDay investigations show.

The implication is that hard times await Nigerians with dwindling disposable income, particularly, the middle and low level income earners who rely on bread for their breakfast, as the prices of other items like cornflakes and bean-cakes, among others, have shot up on account of rising inflation.

FG To Unveil Plan For Affordable Housing Monday




The Federal Government will on Monday unveil its plans towards the provision of affordable houses for Nigerians in line with the electoral promises of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, will make the plan public on behalf of the government at the Affordable Housing Summit 2016 being put together by the ministry in partnership with German Development Cooperation.

A member of the summit’s Technical Working Group, Mrs. Eucharia Alozie, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja.

Acting IGP, Ibrahim Idris, orders police officers to declare their assets



Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered police officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Inspector-General of Police to declare their assets in accordance with Section 13 cap 15 Code of Conduct Act.

Idris stated this during a courtesy call he made on the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) yesterday June 23rd. “Every police officer from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Inspector-General who are commission officers must declare their assets“Idris said.
