Militants Ambush Soldiers In Warri, Kill 2 Soldiers And Six Civilians



Two soldiers and six civilians have reportedly been killed on Wednesday’s night attack on soldiers’ houseboat around a creek close to Omadino/Idjere junction in Warri South Local Area of Delta State.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred between the hours of 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday.

Investigations reveal that the militants struck when some of the soldiers deployed to safe-guard oil facilities had gone on a routine patrol.

Ecobank fires 1040 of its staff


The management of Ecobank Nigeria has fired 1040 of its staff. A source in the bank says the job cut was initially pegged at 1400 but it was reviewed down to 1040. A statement by the bank's Managing Director, Charles Kie, states that certain jobs in the bank are being streamlined for a reduced number of people to do so as to bring about improved efficiency. The statement in part reads;

The parents of a British Muslim accused of joining ISIS have been charged with terrorism offences.
Jack Letts, aka  "Jihadi Jack", who converted to Islam, was suspected of being the first white Briton to join the terror group after he travelled to Syria two years ago.
The 20-year-old, who reportedly goes by the name Abu Mohammed, married an Iraqi woman with whom he has a son, named Muhammed and they have been living in Raqqa, in Syria since.

Speaking on Channels Television, the Minister said farmers have been forced to quit the North East due to the level of insecurity in the region.

Herbalist Defrauds Money-seeking Lagos Banker Of N2.5m (photo)




A herbalist, Seye Olufokunbi, has narrated how he defrauded a Lagos banker, identified simply as Lekan, of N2.5m.

The 33-year-old said he told Lekan, who worked in one of the banks on the Victoria Island, that the money was for a special soap.

He said he lied to the banker that the soap, when kept in a box for two days, would produce a lot of money.

The money magic was said to have failed, leading to a petition to the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad in February 2016.

Couple Killed & Burnt Beyond Recognition In Benue Governor's Village (Graphic Pics)



Unknown gunmen at the weekend invaded the village of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and killed a couple.

Police spokesman in the state, ASP. Moses Yamu, who confirmed the incident, said Mr Joseph Msen Akosu and his wife were shot dead in Agasha area of Guma Local Government Area.

He said the gunmen, after killing the couple, burnt their bodies beyond recognition before the police arrived at the scene and recover empty shell of rifle at the scene.

Bill On Loans For Undergraduates Passes Second Reading



A bill seeking to make Federal Government to provide loan to students to pursue tertiary education passed second reading at the House of Representatives on Tuesday. Speaking on the bill, its sponsor, Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos), said that it was intended to provide students with easy access to funds for higher education. Gbajabiamila said that a great population of Nigerian students would be enrolled for higher education if the bill scaled was successful.

He, therefore, canvassed for the establishment of Nigerian Education Bank. Gbajabiamila also advocated that the loans should be interest-free, saying “Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural resources to tap from and encourage quality education for future generations’’. According to him, education is a right and not a privilege for Nigerians. Students’ loans speak volume if a lasting legacy is to be bequeathed to future generations.

Lagos Syndicate Produces Fake Naira Notes (photo)



Two men who are allegedly members of a syndicate that produces fake naira notes have been arrested by the police on Oluwakemi Street, in the Ojodu Abiodun area of Lagos State.

The suspects – Hope Ihesiaba and his brother, Ifeanyi – were arrested by the Isheri Police Division on Saturday.

Our correspondent learnt that the police were tipped-off by a woman, who sold foodstuffs in the area, that the suspects spent fake N1,000 notes and the operatives moved in on the duo.

Eighty pieces of fake N1,000 notes, two laptops, a sledge hammer and a cutlass were said to have been recovered by the police from the suspects’ house.
